Differences Between Deep Parabolic Softboxes

When lighting up your shoot, you may come to believe that you require some form of modifier to help adjust the lighting to better suit the environment. One of the most common modifiers used with lights would be a Softbox. We here at Pixapro offer a wide range of softboxes, including a selection of Deep Parabolic softboxes. In this blog, we will discuss the differences between our DeepPara90 Softbox and our 90cm (35.4") 16-Sided Easy-Open Deep Umbrella Softbox, to help better inform you on these products.

Both of these softboxes have similar uses, as they can be used for many purposes ranging from Commercial to Portrait photography. They both come with two layers of diffusion, allowing for a soft yet even and focused lighting and due to the specific shape of both of these softboxes, they can produce a pleasing circular catchlight in the eyes of your subject. The user also has the ability to use these as large parabolic beauty dishes for the times when you would like a slightly more contrasting light.

Even though both of these softboxes have a lot in common, there are a few differences between the two. The main difference would be in the way both of these are set up. The 90cm (35.4") 16-Sided Easy-Open Deep Umbrella Softbox has a simple set-up as the softbox all comes together as one and the rods are simply pushed and locked into place using an umbrella mechanism. The DeepPara90 Softbox has a slightly different set-up as the 90cm (35.4") 16-Sided Easy-Open Deep Umbrella Softbox, in which the rods themselves are attached directly to the Speedring, and then are pushed and locked into place. So, when it comes to setting up the softboxes, the 90cm (35.4") 16-Sided Easy-Open Deep Umbrella Softbox would be the easier option.   

Another difference between the two softboxes is that whereas the 90cm (35.4") 16-Sided Easy-Open Deep Umbrella Softbox only has the possibility for Direct lighting, the DeepPara90 Softbox has the ability to use direct lighting and indirect lighting. To achieve indirect lighting, you would need to use the Central Pole Bracket for DeepPara Softboxes. Indirect lighting is when the light itself is facing in towards the softbox compared to shining through the softbox, giving you a different lighting effect. When moving the light closer to the centre of the softbox, you will receive are harsher and more direct light and when moving the light to the outside of the softbox, you will receive a softer and more wide-spread light. So, even though both of these softboxes have slight differences, they have a lot of qualities in common and would both be a wonderful addition to your lighting set-up.
