LUMI400 vs Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4
When it comes to studio lighting, many people are looking for a high-quality light that is also affordable for the everyday budget. In this Blog, we take a look at two lights that fit these criteria, the PIXAPRO LUMI400 and the Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4, and see which of these lights would be better for you.
Both of these lights are 400W power, meaning that you will receive a high quality of light and will be pleased with the coverage offered by these during you shoots. The Flash Duration for both these lights are also the same, as at full power, both of these achieve a flash duration of approximately 1/800s
The Colour Temperature for these lights is very similar too, with the LUMI400 having a colour temperature of 5600K ± 200K and the D-Lite RX 4 having a colour temperature of 5500K. So, the LUMI400 does have a higher colour temperature, mean you should get a more accurate white light. The LUMI400 also has a slightly better guide number. At 1m @ ISO100, the D-Lite RX 4 only achieve 64 whereas the LUMI400 can achieve 65, meaning that the LUMI400 will be slightly more powerful over a longer distance.
The Modelling Lamp that comes the with LUMI400 is also more powerful, being 150W, compared to the Modelling Lamp that comes with the D-Lite RX4, which is only 100W. The displays for both of these lights differ, with the LUMI400 having a bright and easier to read display, which makes it simpler for the user to adjust the settings and understand what the lights settings are. The D-Lite RX 4 does still have a simply display, but it is less detailed and requires more previous experience using the light to understand what each button does.
With Bowens S-Type fitting, the LUMI400 has a much more common fitting than the standard fitting that comes from Elinchrom, meaning that it is much easier to find modifiers for this particular light and for a much more reasonable price. The LUMI400 also comes with an 8mm Umbrella slot, which is the most common, so it is much easier to find compatible Umbrellas for a more reasonable price.
The D-Lite RX 4 however comes with a 7mm Umbrella slot, which are much more difficult umbrellas to find as they can only be brought from Elinchrom themselves at a much higher price. The Dimensions for these lights do differ also as the D-Lite RX 4 is 26 (L) x 14 (W) x 19 (H) cm compared to the LUMI400 which is 35 (L) x 12.5 (W) x 25 (H) cm. So even though the D-Lite is slightly wider, in general it is a more compact light which makes it more portable and easier to store. The D-Lite RX 4 is also lighter than the LUMI400, as it is 1.5KG compared to 2KG, making it approximately 0.5KG lighter.
One main difference between these two lights however is the price. Whilst the D-Lite RX 4 would cost between £260-£270, the LUMI400 would only cost £184.99. This could be a huge difference for the average customer as it may impact their budget quite a lot, but it would also allow the customer to used the difference is price to purchase any additional modifiers they may find useful for their shoots. The LUMI400 also comes with a 2 Year UK Based Warranty, which means that if there are any issues or queries that occur during that period, you will be able to get in contact with us for any assistance you require and we will be able to help resolve any problems with the Lighting. The LUMI400 is also part of the PIXAPRO One System, which is a system created so that it is possible for you to control all of your flashes through a single trigger, making your shoots much easier to control and get better quality results faster.
So, after looking through all of the specifications and information for these lights, we believe that the LUMI400 would be the better light to go for. Even though they are both similar in a lot of aspects, the LUMI400 has the edge over the D-Lite RX 4 in a lot of technical specifications, and the rather large difference in price simply can’t be ignored.
