Lighting a TV Film Studio with Godox KNOWLED LED Lights
In this article, we’ll show you how exclusively Godox KNOWLED LED Film Lights can be combined and used in one scene in a studio environment: the MG2400Bi LED monolight, the MG1200Bi LED light, the F400Bi & F200Bi LED mats, the P600BHSS lantern softbox, the AT200Bi air tube light, etc.
Combining multiple LED light sources in one scene is a common lighting technique, however, it can be difficult when switching and adding new lighting gear to use different branded equipment seamlessly in one setup
So, our goal is to show you how to use a variety of lighting tools to drive a cinematic and moody room scene as well as drive the story surrounding the actor, all with a compatible array of lighting equipment.
Godox KNOWLED Lighting System
All these KNOWLED lights are designed with bluetooth control, allowing for seamless interconnectivity via the KNOWLED Light Control App (Available on Tablets) from which you can control multiple LED units and create a floorplan. This ensures consistency in your setup from brightness to colour temperature and more.
Scene Analysis
In this scene, we decided to use a white studio to create a unique scene based on unique lens angles and lens movement techniques, as well as customise corresponding shooting scenes to meet specific shooting needs. This allows for the realisation of many unique shots that would be inconvenient to complete in real life.
We created a room scene that is 5 metres long, 4.5 metres wide and 3 metres high. To facilitate the arrangement of the camera position and sports lenses, the length of the right wall is designed to be 2.5 metres.
This scene is about a rock musician writing music in his attic by himself while revealing his inner turmoil. Generally, the overall art style is more American, with warm-coloured wooden floors combined with timber sling ceilings and dark green walls.
We also added record players, vinyl records, art ornaments, movie posters and other small props to express the protagonist’s lifestyle and used brown leather sofas, wooden coffee tables, lockers and other objects to enhance the home atmosphere of the scene.
Lighting Setup
Since this scene's plot takes place in the late afternoon or early evening, we need to create the illusion of an evening by having warm yellow sunlight stream in from the window to the sofa and back wall inside.
1. The MG2400Bi LED light and the GR15 reflector: Setting the stage
We used the Godox KNOWLED MG2400Bi at 3200K colour temperature, a powerhouse of lighting perfection, offering a consistent and reliable source of illumination. We also combined the GR15 reflector on the right side outside the screen window and set up a film light reflection board (LiteFlow D1 100) on the upper part directly in front of it.

The MG2400Bi LED is placed towards the 1-meter film lighting reflector. It is reflected on the wall and sofa in the attic scene as the main light to replicate the evening sunshine by altering the reflector’s height and angle.
2. Adding More Light Source with Godox LiteFlow Reflectors
To strike the reflector to extend the main light, the LiteFlow D1 100 reflector light modifiers is positioned above the loft's right corner, and an MG2400Bi film light (3200k colour temperature) +15 degree reflector is positioned below it. We also adjusted the reflector’s angle to reflect light onto the character, the sofa and the vinyl cabinet area on the right side to enhance the sense of sunlight in the scene.
3. Light Up the Drum Area with LiteFlow50 D1 and MG1200Bi
We used a ball-head gimbal on top of the sloping roof to place a lighting reflector, LiteFlow50 D1light diffusers, and adjusted the angle of the reflector to hit the drum area. Then, on the back right side of the screen, position the MG1200Bi LED light to hit the D1 50 reflector to light up the drum area and increase the level of the picture.
On the outside of the left wall, we set up an MG1200Bi LED film light at 3200K colour temperature, combined with a 30-degree reflector to control the range of light exposure and hit the three reflective plates on the right wall.

4. Decorative Ornaments Area with Godox LiteFlow Cine Reflectors
On the top of the right wall, we used a ball head to arrange three reflectors: LiteFLow D1 7, LiteFlow D1 25 and LiteFlow D1 15, which were directed to the area on the right side of the bookcase, the area of art ornaments on the left side of the bookcase and the area of decorative paintings on the sofa cabinet. Our purpose when using different sizes of the LiteFlow reflector system is to highlight the background and increase the level of the picture.

5. Enhancing Top Light Performance with F400Bi LED Mat
On the rear left corner of the scene, we positioned heavy-duty fishing, hoisted F400Bi cloth lights (5600K colour temperature) over the sofa where the actors were performing and covered the entire space where the characters were performing from top to bottom. As a top light, it brightens the image while illuminating character and performance areas.
6. Dynamic Fill Lighting with F200Bi LED Mat vs AT200Bi
We set up an F200Bi LED mat at 5600K colour temperature plus grid above the middle between the drum set and the table, using a tall boom arm on the back right side of the scene and hit the entire performance space from top to bottom. As a fill light, it brightens the shadows of characters and scene props and weakens the contrast of the picture.

On the right-hand side of the actors, we also arranged an AT200Bi air tube light and a grille to control the range of light exposure. It is directed to the area where the actor performs, brightens the shadows and weakens the contrast of the characters.
In conclusion, the collective Godox KNOWLED lighting series has shone through, demonstrating the transformative power of advanced lighting tools. This integration empowers filmmakers and video producers to create a brilliant cinematic story like never before.
